Richard Corrigan brought the allotment act back to prominence in his new tv series. He said that local authorities have a responsibility to provide allotments where there is sufficient demand.
Why then, are local authorities (like Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown) closing or freezing allotment waiting lists? Dosen't this mask the true demand for allotments?
What is the Green Party view of allotment waiting lists being frozen? I think it is dispicable that they (DLR) have closed the lists and are masking the true demand.
Just wanted to add my support to the allotment campaign. One thing you might consider is providing more allotments from county councils. I applied only to find I could be on the waiting list for a number of years before I can get growing. The demand is there, people do want the opportunity. I've decided to grow my own by taking on an allotment in a private allotment scheme set up in Annamoe Co. Wicklow, and loving every minute of it, so people please get out there and get growing, if your county council waiting list is too long, there are a number of private schemes set up over the last few months. We get to spend the weekends in the countryside, get fresh air, excercise, get to eat veg that tastes a million times better than the unripe aged stuff in the shops, and we know exactly whats gone into it, and have lots of fun doing it.
I've shown my support for your campaign by putting a button on my blog which follows how we're getting on in Annamoe. www.plot103.blogspot.com Best of luck with it.
A new scheme of allotments has just started in Annamoe near Glendalough in Co Wicklow. More information is available at this link:
