Get your equipment right, remember it doesn't have to be expensive, you'll need pots and tubs and compost- For larger scale gardening, you may need a spade or fork and a trowel
- Make sure all containers have holes at the bottom for drainage
- Start with easy to grow plants and herbs, such as lettuce, chives, tomatoes, scallions or herbs in a window box
- Select varieties you'll savour and will use in salads and cooking
- Grow flowers among your vegetables to attract insects
- Remember TLC - water, particularly in warm weather
