Community Garden at Festina Lente, Bray
Just to update you, some of us have met up each Sat afternoon at our Community Garden for the past few weeks, dug up and got the plots ready for planting (lots of muscle work was required) and planted potatoes, onions, cabbages, radishes, beans, and spinach. We also planted some pumpkins, sunflowers and dahlias in seed trays which we have left in a polytunnel. There are pots, compost etc. available for our use in the polytunnel which is a big help. This is where the kids get to do a bit of planting in pots. If anyone goes up during the week and does some planting, they just let the rest of us know what's been done by leaving markers in the plots of what's planted and where.
We have agreed to plant the following:
Polytunnel:
Lettuce
Tomatoes - I have planted 6 types at home and will bring them up when bigger
Carrots
Strawberries
Plot 1:
Potatoes - Planted
Onions - Planted
Leeks
Beetroot - Planted
Plot 2:
Cabbages - Planted
Broccoli - Seeds in Pots
Radish - Planted
Plot 3:
French Beans - seeds in pots
Peas
Tomatoes (later on transplant from polytunnel)
Flowers:
Sunflowers - Planted
Nasturtiums - Planted
Marigolds - Planted
Dahlias - Planted
So far it's been great fun, a bunch of people getting together, chatting, digging and soon lots of watering to be done!
