I have recently started working an allotment near Roundwood and it is great fun. Details at this link

I wonder if there is no land available for the council to provide allotments, should they contact private schemes and allocate allotments through them. Where I am, there is lots of free land beside the plots and maybe the owner would agree to rent it to the council.
Alternatively, the council could just put the people who want an allotment in touch with the private scheme.
