‘NEW TURVEY ALLOTMENTS ARE A MODEL OF GOOD FINGAL COUNTY SERVICE TO COMMUNITY NEEDS AND FUTURE SUSTAINABILITY’ - SARGENT
Minister for Food and Horticulture Trevor Sargent TD, recently visited the soon to be revamped allotments at Turvey Avenue near Donabate.
He said, ‘I’m delighted with the progress at Turvey. As a result of the improvements here, there will be an extra 125 plots - 225 in total. It’s great to see the new fencing, pathways and other infrastructure nearly finished. This will be an even better place for people to come and “grow their own” in Dublin North. The benefits are many and varied for people using allotments. It makes not just economic sense but is of great benefit nutritionally. It ensures access to food that is as fresh as possible and reduces unnecessary air miles and carbon emissions used transporting goods, as well as reducing the need for people having to drive to shops.’
The Minister continued, ‘Great credit is due to Fingal County Council for providing this excellent facility. I see this as a great opportunity for the whole family to learn new skills and get involved in a healthy outdoor activity.’
